Shields aren’t ideal for battle, so what do we do about that? Well, we just look back at the way things was before the Combat Update: blocking using a sword. It only reduces incoming damage by approximately 50%, it is quickly reachable, it is always available, and there’s still enough space on your display to really see your opponents. What else could you possibly want?Â Sword obstructing anyone? With Sword Blocking Combat Mod 1.15.2/ / 1.14.4, it is finally back! The complete thing, like it was.

Features:

Well, sword blocking is back, what more is there to say really? It looks the same, it functions the same, …it probably even smells and tastes the same. Simply put it’s just as equally awesome as it was back in the day.

Ok, but still here are a couple of notes nonetheless, because some things just had to be adjusted:

it works with both hands now
when holding a useable item in the offhand (e. g. food, potions, bow, crossbow, shield, trident) this item will be prioritised over any sword held in the main hand; this is intended to maintain using a sword and shield or bow together as a valid combat option

No idea how sword blocking worked before it was removed in the Combat Update? Alright, here is a quick rundown from the Minecraft Wiki:

sword blocking allows players to block partial damage from incoming attacks, e. g. arrows and explosions
this is done by holding down the right mouse button while wielding any type of sword
blocked attacks deal only about half the damage they normally would
blocking does not decrease the sword’s durability
while blocking, the player moves at a speed slower than if they were sneaking

NOTES:

There is no config file available for such a simple mod (yet). It’s sword blocking, so take it or leave it.
For this mod to fully function it needs to be installed on both the client and server.

How to install:

Make sure you have already installed Minecraft Forge.
Locate the minecraft application folder.
- On windows open Run from the start menu, type %appdata% and click Run.
- On mac open finder, hold down ALT and click Go then Library in the top menu bar. Open the folder Application Support and look for Minecraft.
Place the mod you have just downloaded (.jar file) into the Mods folder.
When you launch Minecraft and click the mods button you should now see the mod is installed.
